Layout Plan

This is the plan as it stands today. It is a variation on the Compact Track Plan from Evolution of a N Gauge Layout. I didn’t think I would enjoy the Timesaver portion of the layout, so I simplified it just a little. I will have to have a dedicated engine to work those industries since there isn’t a runaround. It is a tradeoff I had to make to fit so much into such a small space.

I will put a scene divider down the middle so it will have two distinct sides. I really like the urban canyon feel of layouts like Bill Denton’s Kingsbury Branch and Brad Meyer’s Los Angeles Terminal District. I want both sides to have an industrial/urban feel so I am looking at some of the multi story Walther’s Cornerstone buildings. The building that is shown on the plan is a modified George Roberts Printing made to fit against the back drop. I started to do this on my last layout, but never finished it. I also like the Walton and Sons Lumber CO and probably a scrap yard for some industries with character. I think the Parkview Terrace would also add to the urban feel. For the yard side of the layout, I like modified versions of the American Hardware Supply and The Bralick Building to fill the space easily.
