Supporting StagingTracks

Some of you may be wondering how you can support StagingTracks. There are a number of ways with varying degrees of commitment. Choose the one that suits you best and watch as StagingTracks grows.

  • First, and most importantly, you can let others know of model railroad groups in your area by adding your local clubs, shops, and upcoming shows. See if you favorite shop, club, or show is listed. You can search for local model railroading organizations and see what has already been added.
  • You can also link to StagingTracks from your website. By linking to StagingTracks, you are helping others branch out and find other model railroaders. You are also helping those other model railroading organizations by making it easier to find them. I have even created a simple little JavaScript link that you can drop on your website that will load other model railroading organizations in your area. See your club, shop, or show listing here on StagingTracks and look for section “Include local information on your website.”
  • I have added a “Recommended Reading” section to the sidebar of StagingTracks. These are books that I have enjoyed and think others may like as well. By clicking on the link and purchasing through Amazon, StagingTracks will receive a portion of the sale.
  • There is also a “Make a Donation” button where you can make a donation through PayPal. It is up to you how much you want to donate and PayPal accepts many forms of payment.

Thanks for supporting StagingTracks and let’s continue to spread The World’s Greatest Hobby.

The Word Is Getting Out

Wow! We have had 2 straight day of 100+ visitors to the site. Lots of you have been adding your favorite clubs, shops, and shows to the site. If you haven’t added your favorites, what are you waiting for?

In order to help you promote your local organizations and StagingTracks, I had created a little JavaScript that can be included on your club, shop, or show’s website. It is very easy to use. First, find your listing on StagingTracks. Then look for the “Include local information…” beneath the map. Copy the JavaScript to your club, shop, or show’s website and you now have listing of other local railroading organizations.

If you start using this, drop me a line so I can check it out. there is not any styling on the content that is served up, so you can make it fit with your site design. I am always looking for ways that StagingTracks can be useful to everyone.

How Can You Help?

Wondering how you can help? It is really very easy. See if your favorite club, shop, or upcoming show is listed. If it isn’t, then feel free to suggest it (there is a suggestion link on most pages).

Once you have added your favorite club, shop, and show then let others know about StagingTracks.com. You can add a link, http://www.stagingtracks.com, to your existing website. I am currently working on a simple script that you can drop on your pages that will let you display relevant information (e.g. for a club you would see local shops and upcoming shows and for a shop you would area clubs and upcoming shows, etc.)

I want to provide the best way for model railroaders to connect with each other. And with your help, I can make this possible.

Why Do I Do This?

You may be wondering why I am doing this. The reason is quite selfish. I wanted to know when the upcoming train shows would be in town. Easily. I also wanted to be able to find model train shops when I travel. Easily. So I built StagingTracks for me. I admit it is selfish, but it is the truth.

Then I started thinking. I am sure there are others out there looking for local model train shops, clubs, and shows. What if you could easily find a shop that would connect you with a club that could connect you with a show? Or find a show that had a club that knew about a shop? Or any of the many combinations? And what if model railroaders started letting other model railroaders know where to find this information? And StagingTracks was born.

It is my hope that I can connect model railroaders, new and old, with local model trains shops, clubs, and upcoming area shows. If you know of a shop, club, or show that is not listed, please feel free to suggest it.

Coming Soon

I wanted to let you know what I am currently working on for StagingTracks You may have noticed the login box in the sidebar on the right and asked yourself, “Self, why would I need to sign in?”

To start off, in the next couple of days I will be adding the ability to rate and comment on any of the shops, clubs, and shows that are listed. I think this will help people to get a better idea of what they have found. You can get an address and map anywhere, but here you can find others opinions and insight.

I want StagingTracks to be more the an index, I want it to be a place where model railroaders connect with each other. I have more ideas for that as well and I will post them as I get closer to finishing them
